DJ Set – New Years Eve at Fancourt

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Well, as it goes, I’m not really a celebrator of New Years or any other special occasion for that matter. Needless to say, Amelia and I did not have anything planned to bring in the new year.

This morning, I got a call from Jovan and was asked to play in the Fancourt, Members Bar to welcome 2010, and I was more than stoked to do so.

I kicked off with a mellow mix from 19:30 till about 21:30 then picked it up a bit as some of the guests were looking for a slightly more upbeat vibe.

While we were waiting for more guests to arrive, Amelia and I had an awesome seafood pizza, prepared by the La Cantina Chefs, along with some really good coffee. If you get the opportunity to visit Fancourt and enjoy seafood, I’d highly recommend you have one of their seafood pizzas, if you don’t like seafood, you can’t go wrong with the coffee.

The crowd streamed in from about 22:40 and it was pumping through till 23:50 when I called last rounds for 2009. At ten seconds to midnight, we started the countdown and welcomed in the new year. One of the guests lead us, in singing Auld Lang Syne after which, I brought the pace down a bit, with some chilled dance tracks and good old classics. I gradually slowed things down from then and finished off my set at 02:00.

DJ Set – 7’s After Party at Cactus

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

I hit the decks from just after 21:00 and dropped my first house track immediately, with no more rugby for the weekend, tonight was all about partying.

There were supporters dancing and drinking in the most elaborate outfits. We even had a guy who fell in love with a chair for the evening.

I kept things drifting between chilled and uplifting, with a spread of local, and international house and underground. I was on the decks till last rounds were called and began striking at about 03:00.

Outdoor sound was provided by AudioWorx.

After getting all the gear together, I decided to take advantage of McDonald’s 24 hour drive through and went there to grab myself a McFeast Deluxe… I ended up in the cue for about forty minutes, before getting my food, it was well worth the wait though.

DJ Set – 7’s Party at Cactus

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

I kicked off the night at about 19:00 and worked through some laid back tunes, some rock and eventually into some chilled house, every so often dropping something a little more uplifting.

With a number of Flat screens spread throughout the premises, some people were watching the rugby, while others were eating, and the rest were partying it up.

By 22:00 the night was alive and the party was happening outside under the Bedouin Tent in the Castle Chill Zone. I held the tempo through till just after 02:00 when I started slowing things down, as people started leaving.

All in all a good night was had by all.

DJ Set – 40th Birthday at Powell Farm

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

The ABBA themed, 40th Birthday party for Gregg Powell was hosted at the Powell Residence.

The night kicked off with drinks in the Powell pub at 18:00, and moved into the Decked out venue at about 19:00.

After dinner, there was a show of ABBA style dancing, with some convincing costumes, after which the dance floor was open. The party of 70, partied it up untill the earlier hours of the morning. Needless to say, many hangovers will be experienced by all.

DJ Set – Customer Awards Evening at Coyote Cactus

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Richard, owner of Coyote Cactus Cafe, decided to host the first Annual Customer Awards Evening, to say thanks to regulars and recognise unique individuals all while having a bit of fun.

I hit the decks just before 21:00 and got into some good old school rock.

The Cactus Team decided to take the mickey out of Richard and ripped him off about his shoes. They gave him the first prize for the evening, a tiny pair of shoes tied together for him to hang around his neck for the night, everyone had a good chuckle.

I picked up the pace with some chilled house until the first official prize giving. Prizes were awarded for, Worst Dancer, Worst Singer, Person who spends the biggest percentage of their salary at Cactus, the person who drinks the Worst Shooters and a variety of other equally funny titles. Each of the prize givings spread out through the evening were filled with wholesome laughter, we even had the odd performance by “The Worst Dancer” which was well worth seeing.

Amelia, Parveen and Ziyaad, Decided to drop in and give me a much appreciated surprise visit.

I also got to see William a mate I used to work with at the Spur, as well as Quintus and Andre who I used to work with at Rossini’s all of whom I haven’t seen in ages.

I slowed things down with some rock and picked it up again at about 01:30 with some of the latest house tracks, with the last of the guests leaving at 03:00.

Thanks to Richard for being an awesome host, a good sport and for organising the event.
